Entry Requirements


Find out the qualifications from India that we accept for entry onto undergraduate and postgraduate courses at Newcastle.


If you do not meet these requirements you may be eligible to apply for entry to a course at INTO Newcastle. These courses are based on our campus and help you to prepare for study with us.

English language requirements

If your first language isn't English you will generally need an IELTS score of 6.5, or equivalent, to study at Newcastle.

Our English language requirements section also lists the alternative English language qualifications we accept. This varies depending on which country you are from.

Tuition fees

Tuition fees for international students from outside the European Union are provided on individual course profiles. Find an undergraduate degree or postgraduate course and check what fees apply.

Scholarships and discounts

Scholarships and discounts

If you're wanting to come and study at Newcastle, we have a number of schemes that applicants from India can take advantage of:

  • Vice-Chancellor’s Excellence Scholarships. 50% or 100% tuition fee awards for outstanding undergraduate and postgraduate applicants
  • Vice-Chancellor’s International Scholarships. Awards of £1,500 - £5,000 for students joining an eligible undergraduate degree or postgraduate taught Master’s degree:

£1,500, £3,000 or £4,000 for students who hold an offer within the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences and
£2,000, £4,000 or £5,000 for students who hold an offer within the Faculty of Science, Agriculture and Engineering and the Faculty of Medical Sciences

The scholarship offer will depend on predicted or achieved grades.

Eligible candidates will automatically be considered for a Vice-Chancellor’s International Scholarship as part of their academic course application.

Cost of living

Newcastle is a budget-friendly city for international students, compared to other UK cities. This is because:

  • accommodation is reasonably priced
  • many amenities are within walking distance of your accommodation
  • the city is very compact, with most of the shops, theatres, cafes and restaurants a few minutes' walk from the campus
  • there are many discounts for students
