Get ready for PASS during induction week

Induction week includes self-guided activities and online webinars. They are completely optional and you can take part in as many or as few sessions as you like. 

Make sure you set up your IT details and log in to key services such as your email and Canvas.

Get ready to attend PASS on campus!

Higher Education (HE) Skills Module

This flexible module is available in the PASS Hub Canvas Community and can be completed at a time and pace that suits you.

Complete the module by 6 July. It will introduce you to various aspects of HE study, such as:

  • online, blended and flexible learning
  • university lectures
  • independent study
  • seminars and other teaching contexts
  • assessment and feedback
  • library tours
  • critical analysis
  • referencing

Careers and Employability Module

Complete the module by 6 July and attend one live 'Ask the Experts' webinar. It's a flexible module, available in the PASS Hub Canvas Community. You can complete it at a time and pace that suits you.

The self-directed module will introduce you to:

  • Newcastle University's Careers service
  • exploring career options
  • setting goals
  • using LinkedIn
  • Newcastle graduates and their career journeys 

Ask the Experts sessions

You can access these webinars through the PASS Hub Canvas Community. These are live and compulsory, careers webinars happening on Tuesday 30 June and Thursday 2 July. You only need to attend one which should last no more than 1.5 hours.

FAQs

What should I bring with me to PASS?
Bring Do not bring
Something to make notes on - pen, paper, tablet, laptop etc.  Expensive jewelry
Toiletries (Shampoo, body wash, deodorant, hand wash, toothbrush & toothpaste etc.) Bedding - duvet, sheets. If you wish to bring an additional pillow / blanket this is fine
Any medication you might need Any other items of high value
Any sanitary items you need A towel
Clothing - for both warm and cool weather. Pyjamas, underwear, socks. Comfortable footwear. A waterproof jacket Your car (unless you have contacted us regarding accessibility or disability requirements)
Your phone and a charger  Your own food or cooking equipment - snacks are fine but all of your meals are provided for you
Sun cream Games consoles
An umbrella Large amounts of cash
A refillable water bottle Large electrical equipment
A small bag to carry things with during the day Alcohol or illegal substances
An alarm clock if your phone does not have this feature Any pets
I can't attend these sessions, are they recorded?

Yes! Click the date of the session you want to catch up on and you can find the recording there.

These will be available a day or two after the session.

I don't have access to Canvas yet

If you have completed all relevant forms and code of conducts, we will give you log in details and access to Canvas (online University platform) on 22 June. 

You will then be able to view all of the online modules and information through Canvas to get ready to start the summer school the week after. 

If you have not done this, you will not yet have access. Please check the Code of Conduct page for more information.
