PASS Timeline
1. Select Newcastle as your firm choice
You can only attend the summer school and receive all further PASS details if you hold a firm choice PARTNERS offer at Newcastle.
You'll receive your official invite and PASS subject strand allocation by email within one week of selecting Newcastle as firm choice.
2. View your PASS subject strand timetable
Each subject strand has a different timetable. Your subject strand is allocated based on your firm choice course and has been confirmed to you in an email.
View the correct subject strand timetable and make sure you know which days you'll be arriving on campus and which days you'll be learning online from home.
On campus and online days differ between subject strands, so we don't want you turning up on the wrong days and missing out!
4. Request travel and accommodation
Attendees who are not local to Newcastle can request accommodation and travel to be booked by the PARTNERS team.
If you're eligible, the booking request form will be sent to you in an email.
The deadline to apply is 09:00 - Wednesday 17 June.
This does not apply to local students.
Will you be under 18 on 28 June?
A parent, carer or guardian must sign the under 18 accommodation consent form. Even if you turn 18 during the summer school.
Download the under 18 accommodation consent form and email the completed form to: academicsummerschool@newcastle.ac.uk
If you're not staying in university accommodation for PASS, the under 18 consent form is not required.
5. Catch up on our online PASS information webinar
On 6 May, we hosted a live online session to help you feel prepared, confident and ready for your PARTNERS Academic Summer School experience.
Catch up on the recording. We recommend watching to get your questions answered and hear directly from current students and staff.
We’ll cover:
- what your PARTNERS offer means
- how to successfully complete the summer school
- key dates and induction week
- travel, accommodation and catering
- wellbeing and disability support
- social opportunities and making friends
- completing your formative assessment and how results work
6. Receive university IT login details and access
You will receive your own university login details and email address on 22 June, as well as access to our online learning platform, Canvas.
Within Canvas, you'll receive access to the PASS Hub Canvas Community. This is a space for all PASS 2026 attendees and all required information and guidance for the week.
If you haven't completed the relevant code of conduct form by 22 June, we can't give you access to these.
7. Canvas orientation
Once you have your login details, it's important that you are set up and ready to use Canvas and university IT services.
Familiarise yourself with our IT and Canvas guidance pages to get set up.
You can also sign up for the Canvas orientation webinar in induction week or catch up on the recording.
Don't leave it until the day before, or you may struggle to access compulsory sessions or materials.
8. Access to PASS Hub Canvas Community
On 22 June, you'll receive access to the PASS Hub Canvas Community.
This Canvas community will include:
- your final timetable including campus locations and academic teaching staff contact details
- the Higher Education (HE) Skills module
- the Careers and Employability module (including how to join the online Ask the Experts sessions)
- travel reimbursement form
- campus and city map
- key contacts for IT support, on campus support and more
- discussion boards, online forums to speak with other PASS attendees
- upcoming scholarships and funding opportunities for PARTNERS students
11. Attend PASS
No biggie!
We hope you're prepared to start PASS either:
- registering on campus on Sunday 28 June
Or
- logging in online on Monday 29 June
To successfully complete the summer school:
- attend all compulsory timetabled sessions, in person and online between Sunday 28 June & Friday 3 July
- complete all tasks and assignments as directed, by the deadline set by your strand leader
- complete the HE skills module, the Careers & Employability module, and attend one of the live Ask the Experts webinars within the PASS Hub Canvas Community in your own time by 6 July
- abide by the behavioural expectations outlined in the code of conduct
- complete the PASS evaluation form by 17 July - this will be sent to you on 10 July
We want you to have as much fun as possible during the week, so make sure you're prepared in advance, know where you're going, and can access relevant sites and documents.
12. Submit formative assignments
Further details on your formative assessment will be explained to you by academic teaching staff during the week. You can view basic assignment details on the subject strand timetables page.
Formative means that it's not graded or marked, and is purely for you to receive constructive feedback. We just want you to try your best and give it a go!
You can only fail the assessment if you do not submit everything required or it's clear that you haven't put any effort into it.
You're not expected to do work on this or revise in advance of attending PASS - everything you need for the assignments will be taught in the week.
It's important to submit all components on time, so if you're unsure of anything, you must speak with your subject strand leader as soon as possible.
If you're experiencing personal circumstances that affect your ability to complete or submit any assignments by the deadline, we may be able to put alternative arrangements or alternative deadlines in place. Please let us know in advance of the deadline. We can only provide alternative arrangements if the reason is deemed valid and you can provide evidence.
Read the full Formative Assessment Policy for further details.
13. PASS results day
You'll find out if you have passed the Summer School on Monday 3 August.
This will be sent by email to your University email address.
Your PASS result does not confirm a place at Newcastle University – the university can’t confirm this until A level results day (Thursday 13 August), regardless of whether you have achieved your grades before this or not.
Pass
This means that you have successfully completed the PARTNERS programme and your offer will be dependent on you achieving your PARTNERS lower offer grades on Results Day.
Fail
This outcome means that you have not fully satisfied the requirements of your PARTNERS offer for entry to the University.
This does not necessarily mean that you will not be accepted onto your chosen degree programme at Newcastle University. Your place of study will depend on your performance and the performance of your peers.
On A Level results day, anyone who misses their grades will still be considered against any remaining places on the degree programme.
14. A Level results day
After you have received your results from your school or college on the morning of A Level results day (Thursday 13 August), you can log on to UCAS Hub where you should be able to see a decision about your place at Newcastle University.
On 13 August, if you need any advice or guidance, you can contact the PARTNERS team from 08:00 on 0191 208 6094 to discuss your circumstances.
Please note, the PARTNERS team is available to offer you support and guidance, but we are not able to make offers via Clearing.
Newcastle University Clearing
If, on results day, you have been unsuccessful in securing a place on your chosen course, you can contact Newcastle University Clearing, as there may be other courses available:
- Hotline - 0800 073 5050
- Online live chat – ncl.ac.uk/clearing
Clearing is available from 08:00 on Thursday 13 August. We recommend getting in touch as soon as possible after you’ve received your examination results. Clearing places go quick! The hotline will be able to advise you of places available on other courses that you may be interested in.
Please note: Newcastle University’s Clearing hotline (or any other clearing hotline) cannot talk to you about your application(s) until you are in receipt of your A level (or equivalent) results. Therefore, we recommend that you collect your results from school/college, as soon as possible, on the morning of A level results day.
Already achieved your grades?
If you have already achieved your grades at the time of receiving your PASS result, you will still have to wait until A Level results day (Thursday 13 August) to see if your place is confirmed, as all places are confirmed at the same time.
