Translating & Interpreting MA (Chinese and English), Class of 2019

Introduce yourself and tell us a little bit about what you've done since graduating

After graduation, I landed a job as an in-house translator/interpreter at a biopharma company. Later on, I shifted my career focus to localisation to embrace the technological shift of the language industry.

Currently, I work as a Language Lead at a game developer, responsible for removing the language barriers for overseas players. 


Why did you choose to study at Newcastle University?

The MA Translating and Interpreting (T&I) course has established a strong reputation in the language industry. You're connected to an extensive alumni network from day one. It also offers a balanced syllabus, combining theoretical and vocational training,.

The instructors are experienced T&I professionals who always provide insightful guidance.


How do you think your course prepared you for your chosen career? 

The course provided a solid linguistic foundation for me as a language professional. It has helped me hone the management and coordination skills necessary to navigate the corporate world.


What did you enjoy most about your time at Newcastle University? 

Late night crunch sessions at the library and wandering around the city during summer evenings!
