Postgraduate programmes

Our postgraduate programmes are closely linked to our research expertise.

You'll study in a stimulating environment and have access to world-class facilities, alongside students from across the world.

Masters' Degrees

We offer a range of taught postgraduate programmes depending on how you'd like to specialise:

Postgraduate Research Degrees

Our world-leading research covers a range of languages and disciplines. You will be joining an international community that works across: modern languages; film; and translating and interpreting.

Our MLitt programmes contain taught and research elements. They can be used as preparation for PhD research.

PhD Programmes

Studying for your PhD with us means that you'll become an expert in a specialist area and develop high-quality research skills.

Research supervision

As a postgraduate researcher, you’ll conduct original research work under the guidance of your supervisors. You'll have regular meetings to monitor your progress and develop an initial training plan to make sure you are acquiring the appropriate skills for your research.

Applicants for research master's and PhD programmes are strongly encouraged to contact their prospective supervisor before applying. Details of staff research specialisms are available on our School Staff pages.

Develop professional skills

In the School of Modern Languages, you'll have access to a dedicated quiet study space, as well as a common room. You'll develop professional skills through:
