Masters' degrees

We offer a range of taught postgraduate programmes depending on how you'd like to specialise.

Postgraduate research degrees

Our world-leading research covers a range of languages and disciplines. You will be joining an international community that works across: modern languages; film; and translating and interpreting. 

MLitt degrees

Our MLitt programmes contain taught and research elements. They can be used as preparation for PhD research.

PhD programmes

Studying for your PhD with us will allow you to become an expert in a specialist area and develop high-quality research skills. We offer the following programmes: 

Research supervision

As a postgraduate researcher, you’ll conduct original research work under the guidance of your supervisors. You'll have regular meetings to monitor your progress and develop an initial training plan to make sure you are acquiring the appropriate skills for your research.

Develop professional skills

In the School of Modern Languages, you'll have access to a quiet common room for study. You'll develop professional skills to a dedicated quiet study space. You will develop your professional skills through:

  • two dedicated interpreting suites
  • the Language Resource Centre, which is equipped with audio-visual and computing facilities linked to a digital speech bank
