Translating & Interpreting MA (Chinese and English), Class of 2022
Why did you choose to study at Newcastle University?
I was interested in the fact that a lot of the course content is derived from real translation and interpreting jobs. Plus, the teachers all have abundant first-hand work experience as translators and interpreters, which helped me get accustomed to my first job in localisation.
How do you think your course prepared you for your chosen career?
My course furnished me with the tools I need to succeed as a Project Manager in the field of localisation. I gained a further understanding of how translators analyse source texts, what challenges there might be and how much time it may take to complete a piece of work, given the project size.
Such experience is key to time management and quality management for localisation Project Managers.
What did you enjoy most about your time at Newcastle University?
I enjoyed all the lectures and seminars, as well as the opportunities to get involved with societies and activities. The fact that our gym was refurbished in 2021 was another highlight!
Describe your time at Newcastle in three words
Inspirational, diverse, supportive.
