Our Research and Impact

Here are some of our research and teaching publications on anti-racism; conference presentations and notes on the real-world impact of this work.

Here is a video of Professor Alastair Bonnett explaining what is meant by anti-racism based on his book on this topic.

A report about Islamophobia and anti-Muslim racism in the North East by Professor Peter Hopkins and Dr John Clayton (Northumbria) with Tell MAMA led to questions being addressed in Westminster about racism.

A briefing for MPs by the NEU (the largest teaching union) detailed 5 demands in relation to racism in education. One of these demands concerned Initial Teacher Education and this was written by Dr Heather Smith. These demands were also included in a letter to Boris Johnson.

Heather Smith is PI on an NEU-commissioned research project (2021): Developing an anti-racism framework for Initial Teacher Education to mitigate racial inequities in education and to develop sustainable practices for the future.
