Research Support and Funding

Find out about funding, events and competitions to support research.

We offer three key routes to funding our research culture.

Research Institutes Fund >

One-off awards for interdisciplinary projects that lead networking and engagement activities.

About

Pioneer Awards are one-off awards for interdisciplinary projects that lead networking and engagement activities. This includes projects that are early stage or risky and projects that take existing work to a new level or have emerging collaborations. They are activities that contribute to the Institutes’ strategic direction. All staff and PGRs welcome to apply!

Challenge Labs >

Opportunities for students to lead their own research projects on pressing issues that relate to our strategic pillars

About

Students will be provided small-pots of funds to support their interdisciplinary and change-oriented work. Examples of past Challenge Labs include: undergraduate students leading documentary film-screenings on migration, followed by a debate and a migration-campaign. Or, PhD students leading a climate symposium bringing together practitioners and researchers across the region.

Internships

About

We hire undergraduate and graduate researchers for various roles such as: Social Media Intern; Environmental Justice Intern; Gender Intern. Interns leave with portfolios and references that can be beneficial for career development.
