Undergraduate Open Day to bring thousands to Newcastle University

Newcastle University will once again welcome thousands of visitors to its city-centre campus during the Undergraduate Open Day.
More than 17,000 visitors from all over the UK are expected to visit the city to attend the autumn Undergraduate Open Day this Saturday 17 September. The Open Day is for potential undergraduate students who are looking at starting university in autumn 2017.
A large number of parents will also attend the event to find out more about Newcastle University’s campus, accommodation sites, and facilities such as the Students’ Union and Sports Centre.
Over 50 academic subject sessions are on offer for prospective students to find out more about the range of degrees and meet staff and current students. In addition, the University will host sessions covering Applying to Newcastle and Welcome to Newcastle.
Applying to Newcastle is an informal session which will offer students and parents the chance to hear from University admissions staff. ‘Welcome to Newcastle’ will highlight what Newcastle University has to offer and why it’s ranked joint 12th in the UK for student experience and satisfaction in the latest National Student Survey.
Welcoming visitors from across the UK
Professor Suzanne Cholerton, Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Learning and Teaching, said: “We are delighted to welcome visitors from the UK and beyond and to showcase our academic offer and the friendly student community here at Newcastle. The Undergraduate Open Day is a great opportunity for visitors to explore our vibrant campus and discover more about the many opportunities on offer.
“People coming to our campus will get a chance to find out why our students consistently rank their experience at Newcastle University among the highest in the UK. Visitors will have the opportunity to see the results of the University’s investment in high-quality facilities, such as the newest addition to the University Library – the Marjorie Robinson Library Rooms, which houses a variety of digital learning spaces.”
There will be photo opportunities to encourage visitors to share their day on social networks, including Instagram photo points.
Student volunteers will be working on the day in a variety of roles, including welcoming visitors to the city at key locations such as Central Station, Monument and Haymarket.
