NEFE Workshop: Designing the Generative Economy

What separates the various acts of goodwill towards social enterprises, participatory democracy and place-based, public-interest economics from a properly political understanding of them? This workshop will reflect on the political content of the Centre for Local Economic Strategies’ efforts to create an Inclusive Economic Strategy with Newcastle City Council, opening up a documentary analysis to wider input from those involved.
It will then pose a related question. If a political articulation of these issues is not as yet forthcoming from the local state, what might be done to prefigure one through a network? The workshop will draw on the experiences and thoughts of members to develop some answers to this question and begin to fill the gap that exists within recent policy work.
We will hold subgroup discussions to take these questions forward, but if you intend to come we would like your own thoughts via this survey (by 8th Sep) so that we can share experiences and contributions.
The work will be used to inform a funding application to develop the groundwork for a community wealth building strategy.
