APL student design project shortlisted in the Architects' Journal Small Projects Award 2022

Northumberlandia Pavilion shortlisted in awards.

4 April 2022

Northumberlandia Pavilion, the student-led, self build project has been shortlisted in the Architects' Journal Small Projects 2022 Awards.

The project creates a focal point at the entrance to Northumberlandia Wildlife Park and provides seating and shelter to visitors. A second tier of benches expands the capacity to accommodate school field trips. At one side, the tiers becomes a low-level lecturn for interpretation panels.

Northumberlandia Pavilion was developed by 'Testing Ground', a project which teams architecture students with local communities or organisations seeking temporary or permanent structures that will address particular community needs - while also enabling the wider public to enjoy the local landscape.

Students take on the entire process of delivering the structures. From working with clients to develop their brief, right through to carrying out the physical build.
