International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination

School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape celebrates the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.

22 March 2022

This week on March 21st we celebrated the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. It is underpinned by the principle that discriminating against anyone due to their race, ethnicity, faith, sexuality, disability or nationality must be condemned, and that as a community, we are determined to eliminate discrimination wherever it exists and in whatever form it takes and manifests itself.

We see and often hear of acts of intolerance, prejudice or hate around the world, and unfortunately, sometimes we experience them closer to home, even within our very own community. As a School we stand firm against hate and bigotry anywhere and everywhere, and see no legitimate justification for violence, acts or forms of expression that lead to racial hatred, xenophobia, anti-Semitism or other forms of hatred.

This year’s theme calls for “voices for action against racism”, and in recent years we have seen how young people around the world have led the way in challenging racism.

We therefore call upon all students and staff in our School to fully embrace this year’s theme and stand up against all forms of discrimination and acts of hate within our community and further afield, and work together to bring our community and the world closer.
