Notre Dame study and reflection

Days of study and reflection on the future of the area around Notre-Dame and Île de la Cité June 7 and 8 2021

This event has been organised by Jean-François Cabestan , historian, researcher at the HiCSA in Paris 1 Josep Maria Garcia Fuentes, architect, professor at the School of Architecture at the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne and researcher at the Center for Heritage of Newcastle University, and Edoardo Piccoli , architect and architectural historian, professor at the Politecnico in Turin, director of the Dottorato di Architettura, Storia e progett.

Programme

These two days of discussion will bring together historians, researchers, project managers, landscapers, representatives of heritage authorities, and the City in front of an audience of students, professionals and more generally, civil society to discuss the future of the Notre Dame site and the Ile de la Cité.

Professor John Pendlebury will present at 2pm on Monday 7 June, discussing The Cathedral in the City: the Case of Durham and Dr Josep-Maria Garica Fuentes will follow him at 2.55pm on Monday discussing Barcelona 1911-1969: When the Cathedral's Quarter became the Gothic Quarter (Barrio Gotico). 

On Tuesday 8 June Dr Josep-Maria Garica Fuentes will present at 3.05pm discussing his Stage 3 studio topic Building upon Building: Students Explorations of Viollet-le-Duc, Notre-Dame and the Ile de la Cité.
