APL graduate Michelle Martin and PhD candidate John Naylor named in RIBA's 2022 Rising Stars

The annual RIBA journal Rising Stars highlights new and emerging architectural talents

The RIBA Journal has announced the cohort of Rising Stars for 2022, which includes two APL graduates Michelle Martin and John Naylor. 

Rising Star: Michelle Martin

Director of Live Site Learning CIC and Live Site Studio, organising insightful on-site training in conservation

Michelle Martin completed her Master of Architecture degree at Newcastle University in 2013 and has since gone on to set up Live Site Learning CIC, a not-for-profit organisation providing on-site learning in existing heritage buildings.

Rising Star: John Naylor

The Grimshaw architect became a passionate advocate for the use of bamboo in construction while addressing the impacts of deforestation in Haiti

John Naylor completed his Part 3 Advanced Diploma in Professional Practice in Architecture at Newcastle University in 2017. He is currently studying for his PhD with supervision from the Schools of Architecture, Planning and Landscape, and Engineering. During the last academic year John led one of the Stage 3 Architecture studios alongside Neil Burford.
