Research Methods for Global Challenges

Online training platform provides examples of creative research methods.

4 February 2022

The ‘Research Methods for Global Challenges’ (RMGC), a project supported by the Water Security and Sustainable Development Hub and led by Newcastle University, is creating an online training platform that provides examples of creative research methods that can be used to address a series of Sustainable Development Goals.

There is growing recognition of the need to value social sciences/arts and humanities approaches in research, but there is a lack of understanding of the relevant methods in interdisciplinary and collaborative contexts.

By facilitating knowledge transfer between researchers in Colombia, Ethiopia, India, Malaysia and the UK, the project is helping to build an interdisciplinary research network orientated around methodological skills. The network launched at a blended symposium that included workshops such as dance, theatre, conversations, ethnography and sound alongside roundtables on inter-disciplinary research and research ethics.
