Induction week schedule for new students

Your Welcome Week programme runs from Thursday 17 September to Thursday 24 September 2026.

To help you transition smoothly into life at Newcastle University Business School, we've designed this bespoke schedule. It contains a mix of informative sessions, networking opportunities and fun activities.

You will find a list of your activities below. Click on an activity title to show the activity description.

Please note that:

  • all activities may be subject to change. Remember to check back regularly for the most up-to-date information
  • your activities may be a mix of in-person and online sessions. If applicable, links to online sessions will be provided in the activity description
  • Please also check your emails for any sessions that have been organised by the Global Opportunities Team.

Thursday 17 September

14:00 – Incoming Student Business School Induction Session – Online

Join us to find out more about studying in the Business School. Meet your key contacts and understand more about modules, assessment and university regulations.

Time: 14:00 to 15:30

Monday 21 September

10:00 – Study Abroad Incoming Student Module Selection – NUBS 1.01

This is an opportunity to review module choices, check module availability and your eligibility. This will be a hands-on session in a PC cluster in the Business School where we can answer any module questions on a 1-to-1 basis. 

Ahead of this session, please make sure you have accessed your university account and can log onto the Newcastle University systems and your university email. If you have any problems doing this please contact IT via email on it.servicedesk@ncl.ac.uk or call them on 0191 208 5999.

For any students who cannot join in person, we will be happy to answer your queries via email at nubs.placementandstudyabroad@ncl.ac.uk but we recommend you attend in person where possible. This session will be repeated on Wednesday 23 September at 11:00. We recommend that you come to the Monday session if you can, to allow more time to resolve module queries.

Tuesday 22 September

09:30 – Local Business Fair – FDC Foyer

Explore local businesses, discover services and opportunities available in the community, and connect with local organisations. Come along to meet business representatives, ask questions, and find out what’s on offer during your time here.

Time: 09:30 to 16:00

Venue: Frederick Douglass Centre, Foyer

Attendance: Optional 

Sign-Up Required: No

14:00 – HaSS Study Abroad and Exchange Module Fair – Herschel Learning Lab (HERB.1)

This in-person event is open to students interested in taking modules outside of the Business School but in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Science (HaSS).

This fair is not compulsory and we expect many students will have resolved module queries on Monday.

Time: 14:00 to 16:00

Wednesday 23 September

09:30 – School Welcome – FDC G.06

Welcome to Newcastle University Business School! Come along to meet some of the people who make up our community and find out what it means to be part of the Business School. We’ll introduce you to the School, the support and opportunities available to you and some of the experiences you can look forward to during your time here.

Time: 09:30 to 10:30

09:30 – Community Café – NUBS 8.10

Grab a drink, take a break and come and meet your new Business School community. The Community Café is a relaxed space to chat with other students, meet staff and make some new connections. Whether you have questions or simply want to get to know some friendly faces, you're very welcome to attend anytime during the day.

09:30 – Toon Trek: A Team Challenge – NUBS 1.03

Ready to explore the 'Toon'? Get out into Newcastle and explore the city centre with other Business School students. Work together and put your teamwork and research skills to the test to answer questions and find specific locations, discovering some of the city along the way. Most importantly, it’s a chance to have fun and make some new friends.

Time: 09:30 to 12:00

Work with your new classmates to explore real-world sustainability issues, share ideas and come up with creative solutions. No previous knowledge needed – just bring your ideas and your enthusiasm.

Time: 12:30 to 14:30
