A unique international opportunity

The NBS9002 Postgraduate International Experience module is a bespoke programme, delivered in partnership with KEDGE Business School.

It combines academic theory with practical application, focusing on sustainable entrepreneurship, business modelling, and leadership communication.

Students also immerse themselves in a new cultural environment, enhancing their global perspectives and cross-cultural skills.

An enriching learning journey

Judson Santos França (MSc International Business Management) described the experience as a "unique opportunity to connect with students, lecturers, and entrepreneurs acting in the global business environment." He highlighted the programme's emphasis on sustainability, innovation, and leadership.

For MSc Finance student Oliver Wong Chap Lan, the trip was transformative. Engaging with industry professionals and navigating cross-cultural communication gave him practical insights which can be applied to international business contexts.

"This experience gave me the confidence and tools to plan and execute my own business ideas responsibly and sustainably," he noted.

Lana Free (MSc International Business Management) called the experience "unforgettable." She emphasised the deepened cultural awareness and lasting connections formed during the trip.

Business insights and cultural exploration

The programme also extended beyond the classroom. Students explored Marseille’s historic port and engaged with its entrepreneurial ecosystem. They visited institutions like Epopée Village — an innovation hub promoting sustainability and social impact. They met with local business leaders, such as Marie-Alfie Dallest, co-founder of MAO BOA. This provided real-world perspectives on entrepreneurship.

Other highlights included watching the sunset over the Old Port and sampling local cuisine. These experiences added to the students' understanding of the region and fostered a sense of global citizenship.

A director’s perspective

Philip Morey, Director of Postgraduate Studies at Newcastle University Business School, reflected on the programme, saying:

“It has been a delight and a privilege to lead the NBS9002 Postgraduate International Experience module this year, which took place in the wonderful surroundings of KEDGE Business School in Marseille.

"Thanks to a fantastic programme of teaching and events from our colleagues at KEDGE, our students had an inspiring learning experience that was enhanced by some fantastic social and cultural activities. Everyone who attended the programme had a great time and will have lifelong memories of this wonderful opportunity.”
