20 January 2026

Newcastle University Business School has been selected to join the Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME) Champions cohort for 2026–2027. It becomes part of a global group of 50 business schools that work together to advance responsible management education.

PRME is a United Nations-supported initiative which brings business schools together around a shared commitment. They aim to equip current and future leaders with the skills, values and mindsets needed to address the world’s most pressing social, environmental and economic challenges.

Through its Seven Principles, PRME encourages schools to connect teaching, research and engagement more closely with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the needs of society.

A commitment to learning, sharing and collective impact

PRME Champions are not just recognised for what they have already achieved. They are recognised for their willingness to learn with others, share openly, and contribute to collective progress.

Over the next two years, the Champions cohort will work together on self-selected areas of focus and develop practical insights, tools and approaches. Their work will strengthen responsible management education across the global PRME community.

Newcastle University Business School embeds ethics, responsibility and sustainability across education, research, partnerships and institutional practice. It will contribute this valuable experience as part of the PRME cohort.

This work builds on the School’s long-standing engagement with PRME and its new strategy. It will connect place-based initiatives with international collaboration, linking local impact to global learning. By working with other PRME Champions, the School aims to help develop rigorous, inclusive and adaptable approaches across different institutional and regional contexts.

Advancing responsible management education

Professor Noemi Sinkovics, Associate Dean of Ethics, Responsibility and Sustainability, reflected: “We've been actively engaged with the United Nations-supported Principles for Responsible Management Education for over 15 years. Joining the Champions cohort is an opportunity to build on that foundation in a more collaborative and outward-looking way. It recognises the depth and coherence of work taking place across the School. But, just as importantly, it challenges us to share what we are learning, to learn from others, and to contribute actively to the global PRME community.

"I'm looking forward to working with colleagues, students, partners, and the School’s Executive Board to take forward a coordinated and principles-led programme of activity. This will ensure that our teaching, research and engagement are translated into meaningful contributions, aligned with the Seven Principles of PRME.”

The Champions’ collective work will support PRME’s strategic objectives and contribute to strengthening responsible management education globally, aligned with the vision of the United Nations Global Compact and the 2030 Agenda.

Professor Stewart Robinson, Dean of Newcastle University Business School, noted the significance of the School’s participation. He said: “Our vision is to make a difference and to help create a more responsible future. Becoming part of the PRME Champions cohort is both a recognition of our historic and ongoing commitment to this agenda, and a springboard for our shared aims. I am delighted that we have been recognised in this way.”

The School’s participation in the PRME Champions cohort reaffirms its commitment to shaping responsible leaders, and to contributing to a global community dedicated to positive change for business and society.
