Main Expertise
Dr Miri’s research expertise lies at the intersection of Strategy, International Business, and Entrepreneurship, with a focus on how organisations grow, innovate, and create both social and economic value in diverse contexts.
Research Interests
His work particularly examines the influence of the institutional environments on social enterprises (SE), exploring how formal and informal institutions shape their conceptualisation, development, and evolution. This research highlights the critical role of institutional contexts in shaping social entrepreneurship, especially in settings characterised by limited resources, institutional voids, or informal structures.
Dr Miri is also interested in how organisational structures, dynamic capabilities, and digital technologies affect the growth, innovation, and competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and Social Enterprises (SEs). By studying these factors, he seeks to understand how organisations adapt strategically to changing markets and institutional pressures.
A key strand of his work focuses on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Corporate Citizenship (CC), and Creating Shared Value (CSV). He investigates how these responsible business practices manifest across different organisational scales - from SMEs to multinational enterprises (MNEs) - and how factors such as size, institutional context, and informality influence the nature and extent of responsible business behaviour. Central to this work is the balance between economic and social value, examining how organisations can pursue profitability while contributing positively to society.
In addition, Dr Miri also maintains a strong interest in neo-institutional studies in emerging and developing economies and in informal business environments. His research explores how contextual factors, including social norms, regulatory frameworks, and institutional voids, shape strategic behaviour, CSR engagements, social enterprise development, and innovation.
He also investigates informal entrepreneurial models, examining how traditional systems of mentoring, apprenticeships and skill development foster entrepreneurial capabilities and business growth. Through this lens, he seeks to understand how cultural and institutional dynamics influence enterprise development and the creation of both social and economic value.
Doctoral Supervision
Dr Miri has successfully supervised six doctoral candidates to completion and has served as chair and examiner for viva voce. Domnan is keen to continue supervising PhD research aligned with his areas of expertise and welcomes discussions with prospective students. He is happy to explore research proposals within the broad scope of his interests, so please feel free to get in touch to discuss your ideas.
