A Reader in Accounting and Finance at Newcastle University Business School (NUBS), holding a PhD. from Lancaster University. She has a fairly long and successful record in editorial boards (e.g. An associated editor for the International Journal of Finance and Economics, Emerging Markets Review, Journal of Financial Reporting and Accounting, International Journal of Financial Studies). The lead guest editor for a special issue in the International Journal of Accounting https://www.worldscientific.com/page/tija/callforpapers02 and a co-guest editor for special issue in the Journal of Risk and Financial Management and also two editorial books for the World Scientific Publishing). Dr. Elnahass is also a peer reviewer/panellist, and a referee for several highly ranked and high impact journals and UK/international research councils (e.g., AHRC, ESRC, Innovate UK and QNRF).
Dr. Elnahass has published numerous articles in top-tier peer-reviewed ABS listed 3 & 4 academic journals in governance, green finance, and financial reporting quality such as British Journal of Management, European Journal of Finance and Journal of International Financial Markets, Institutions and Money. All academic outputs are stated to be internationally recognized for originality, significance, and rigour and some outputs are marked as multi-disciplinary. Her publications are listed on the top 25 downloadable papers, as reported by Science Direct. Ranked in the top 10% of Authors on SSRN by total new downloads within the last 12 months while recent publications in ranked journals (2020-2022) are among Top 8 citations/downloads. She also published technical and industry reports/articles (e.g., ACCA and Frontiers in Digital Health Journal). Attracted/developed several media articles and blogs for NUBS.
Her work on green finance and climate change has been utilised by policy makers (e.g., British High commission, Ministry of Higher Education of Egypt and others) and published by the UK Government on GOV. UK). Her work in banking is showing a good impact and has been published/disseminated by high level authorities and associations (e.g. World Health Organization (WHO), Qatar Central Bank and European Accounting Association). She is regularly invited as a keynote speaker at international conferences, workshops, and Webinars.
Dr. Elnahass received many local and international awards/prizes to recognise her contributions to research and impact. Featured in the Top 200 List of the Most Influential Women in Islamic Business and Finance for 2021/22 & 2022/23 by Cambridge International Financial Advisory. Received the NUBS Schools Award (2022) for Outstanding Researcher of Year (Established Career), shortlisted for the Vice Chancellor Newcastle University Impact Award (Established Career Award, 2022) and many other research prizes for "International Research Recognition Citations" and “Outstanding reviewer” in highly ranked journals (e.g., Journal of Economic Behaviour and Organization).
A co-investigator for the international project UKSG ASEAN COP26, a strategic industry-collaborative project involving several UK/non UK institutions and government representatives (i.e. Imperial Colleague and the British High Commissions in Singapore) https://lnkd.in/d6z69gCt and also published a policy report for COP 27 https://lnkd.in/evKpwjMG. Working on various (international) collaborative and funded projects for Climate Change, Bio-diversity and Carbon Accounting/Finance.
She secured several internal, external and international grants. For example, the UK Principal Investigator for the International Collaborative Grant with Qatar University for $300,000 in 2021. Co-investigator for Natural Environment Researc Council for £31,000 (2023). Co-investigator for the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Water Infrastructure and Resilience (WiRE) (Working jointly with Northumbrian Water Limited) (£60,000 per year: 2021-2024). Secured an ESRC Impact Acceleration Grant for £10,000 in 2016. Lead Investigator for the FinTech Steering Group for the “Centre of Research Excellence for Cyber Security and Resilience” (NuCORE). A member of Newcastle University Climate and Environmental Resilience NUCoRE.
Organized several "Research & Impact events" for NUCoRE Newcastle University centres as well as the business school, in collaboration with industry-based partners and academic institutions (e.g. Lancaster University, Durham University, Aston University and University of Edinburgh). She also organised "International Events" with Qatar university and The British University in Egypt (BUE). Many of her organized conferences were linked to special issues at high impact (3* ABS listed) journals.
A panel member for, both, the Staff Promotion Committee and the Athena SWAN Committee, faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (HaSS) - Newcastle University. The acting Ethics Convenor for the Business School. A Chair of Board of Studies (Accounting and Finance). A peer group member of the EQUIS accreditation team in 2018, 2022, AACSB in 2019, AMBA in 2023.
Hold a teaching experience spanning over 20 years, in several accounting and finance modules taught across Higher Education institutions, located both nationally and internationally (e.g. Lancaster University, Aston University, American university in Cairo, and Cairo University). A module leader for Stage 3 Management Accounting (and its streamline Erasmus module) during 2018-2022, a core module with 170 students. A member of the School’s Development Group for Teaching and Enhancement. An External Examiner at both, University of Leicester, and Newman Birmingham University for several postgraduate programs. External PhD (viva) examiner for Higher Education Academy (HEA) institutions. Have a long record of successful Ph.D. supervision, completions, and recruitment of (fully sponsored) international students during 2014-2023. Joint supervisions cover inter-disciplinary research (e.g. with the management/economics departments and the School of Engineering). A mentor and PDR reviewer for both Senior & Early Career staff, and PGR students. A personal tutor for several UG and PGT students. A Fellow of the HEA of the U.K.
