A Reader in Accounting and Finance at Newcastle University Business School (NUBS), holding a PhD. from Lancaster University. The acting Ethics Convenor for the Business School. A Chair of Board of Studies for the A&F group. Secured an International Collaborative Grant with Qatar University for $300,000 in 2020. Co-investigator for the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Water Infrastructure and Resilience (WiRE) (Working jointly with Northumbrian Water Limited) (£60,000 per year: 2021-2024). Secured an ESRC Impact Acceleration Grant for £10,000 in 2016. A peer reviewer for; the Global Challenges Research Fund, ESRC and Arts and Humanities Research Council. Engaging with a number of industry partners (i.e. in impact projects, research publications and joint PhD supervision). A member of Newcastle University Climate and Environmental Resilience NUCoRE and Lead Investigator for the FinTech Steering Group for the “Centre of Research Excellence for Cyber Security and Resilience”. A member of the NUBS Steering Committee for The Future of Work and Social Justice in Digital Economy. An Associate Editor for the Emerging Market Review Journal. An Editorial Board Member in the peer-reviewed International Journal of Accounting and the Turkish Journal of Islamic Economics. A referee in a number of ABS listed 3*& 4* peer-journals specialised in accounting, finance and banking. Shortlisted for the Vice Chancellor Newcastle University Impact Award (Established Career Award) for 2022. Featured in the Top 500 List of the Most Influential Women in Islamic Business and Finance (known as WOMANi 500) for 2021. Received a research prize for “outstanding reviewer” in the Journal of Economic Behaviour and Organization for 2015. Published 20 refereed academic papers with 12 papers during 2020-2021. All academic outputs are stated to be internationally recognized for originality, significance and rigour (with high citations) and some outputs are listed as multi-disciplinary.
Research interests cover corporate governance, banking, Financial Technology (FinTech) and carbon accounting. All publications are listed on the top 25 downloadable papers, as reported by Science Direct. Ranked in the top 10% of Authors on SSRN by total new downloads within the last 12 months while recent publications in 2021 are among Top 8 citations/downloads in the Journal of International Financial Markets, Institutions & Money.

Working on an impact case study for REF 2028. Leading (as a Principal Investigator) the submissions of several local and international grant applications in collaboration with the Computer Science School and other local/international academic institutions (e.g. EPSRC, ESRC, Innovate UK and the QNRF-NPRP Cycles). Organized two impact events at the Newcastle University-London campuses in collaboration with the Durham University and University of Edinburgh alongside upcoming event(s) with Qatar university for 2021/22 for a funded project. A core member of the organising committees for two leading conferences in Islamic finance in 2014 & 2017 (in collaboration with Aston University, Lancaster university, Sunway University and Durham University). These conferences were linked to special issues for high impact (3*) journals. Having a teaching experience spanning over 18 years, in several accounting and finance modules taught across Higher Education institutions, located both nationally and internationally (e.g. Lancaster University, Aston University, American university in Cairo, and Cairo University).
A module leader for Stage 3 Management Accounting (and its streamline Erasmus module), a core module with 170 students. A member of the School’s Development Group for Teaching and Enhancement. A peer group member of the EQUIS accreditation team in 2018, 2022 & AACSB in 2019 for the core A&F programs. An External Examiner at both, University of Leicester and Newman Birmingham University for several postgraduate programs. Have a long record of successful PhD supervision & completions in addition to the recruitment of fully sponsored PhD students during 2016-2022. Joint supervisions covers inter-disciplinary research (e.g. with the management/economics departments and the School of Engineering). External PhD (viva) examiner for Higher Education Academy (HEA) institutions. A mentor for Early Career NUBS and NUL staff and PGR students. A personal tutor for a number of UG and PGT students. A Fellow of the HEA of the U.K.
