Overview
I joined Newcastle University Business School as a Lecturer in Information Systems Management and member of the Centre for Knowledge, Innovation, Technology and Enterprise (KITE) in January 2017. I am a Committee member for the Association for Project Management’s (APM) Benefits Management Specific Interest Group and a co-opted member of the APM North East Branch.
I am currently leading two ESRC Impact Acceleration Awards. The first is an evaluation project in collaboration with the Association for Project Management's Specific Interest Group on Benefits Management. The second involves working with Apperta Foundation to develop a Benefits Strategy and Toolkit for Open Source Innovation in the NHS.
My PhD was undertaken at Northumbria University and involved a thirteen-month ethnographic investigation into the development and application of Benefits Realisation of Information Systems within a National Health Service (NHS) Foundation Trust. This research project resulted in several evaluation reports for the Trust and a number of academic outputs including a Critical Approach to Realising Benefits (CARB).
Originally from the North East I spent many years living in Dublin where I completed a BSc in Business and Information Technology at Trinity College Dublin. In 2008 I returned to the UK where I won a competitive bursary from the North East Regional Development Agency to complete an industrial project and study for the award of MSc in Innovation, Creativity and Entrepreneurship at Newcastle University Business School. My research examined the Effects of New Workplace Technologies on the Work of Technical Repair Engineers. The results of this project were presented in a report to the participating organisation and shortlisted for a regional award.
I have worked for Durham University as a Research Fellow on a European FP7 project on organisational change in policing and for Northumbria University as a Research Assistant on Benefits Management Capability in the NHS and Lecturer in Information Management and Project Management for which I won a teaching award in 2015.
