Profile
I am a Lecturer in International Business at Newcastle University Business School. I hold a PhD in Economic Geography with a focus on international business from Syracuse University (Syracuse, New York, USA) and previously worked as a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Department of Geography at Durham University. Before joining Newcastle University, I was a Senior Lecturer in International Business Management at Northumbria University, where I also served as Deputy Programme Leader.
My research examines the strategies of multinational corporations and their interactions with states and regional economies. Using qualitative methods, I focus on foreign direct investment, the socio-economic impacts of corporate activity on regions, and the role of national and subnational governments in economic development through global value chains. My work has explored industries such as aerospace and oil & gas, analysing how firms and states shape regional development, labour markets, and industrial policy. My research has been published in journals including Economic Geography, Environment and Planning A, Progress in Human Geography, Global Networks, and Geoforum, among other internationally ranked journals.
I also collaborate with scholars across institutions on projects examining global industries, corporate strategy, and industrial transitions. My current work includes research on transformations in global oil value chains and the changing strategies of firms and investors in the UK. Looking ahead, I am developing research on the decarbonisation strategies of aerospace firms and the role of industrial policy and governance in supporting net-zero transitions.
My teaching focuses on international business, corporate strategy, and the relationship between firms and society. I have experience teaching and designing modules at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, with an emphasis on helping students understand how multinational firms operate within complex global economic and institutional environments.
Prior to joining Newcastle University, I led modules such as Business Ethics in International Business and International Business: Growth Strategies and Resourcing, where I received consistently strong student evaluations. At Newcastle University Business School, I contribute to the undergraduate module BUS3054 Strategy, Organisations and Society, supporting teaching on issues related to corporate strategy, organisational dynamics, and the broader societal role of business.
My teaching approach combines theoretical frameworks with empirical examples to encourage students to critically engage with contemporary debates in international business.
