Join us for our 'What’s It Like to Study Chemistry at Newcastle?' days designed to give year 12 A-level chemistry students a taste of what being an undergraduate student is like.
The typical timetable for the day is:

10:00-10:05 | Welcome and outline of the day |
10:05-11:00 | University style lecture on Spectroscopy (review of MS & IR, introduction to NMR) |
11:00-11:30 | University style tutorial on Spectroscopy (problem-solving: deducing structures of simple molecules) |
11:30-12:00 | Chemistry talk by an academic staff member |
12:00-13:00 | Lunch break |
13:00-13:05 | Return and don PPE |
13:05-15:50 | Practical Laboratory Session in our UG Synthetic Teaching Laboratory (Bedson 2.20) - making an ester (one of the A-level Chemistry Required Practicals (AQA RP10; OCR PAG 6) - Making an Organic Liquid). |
15:50-16:00 | Hand back PPE and complete feedback |
16:00 | Depart |
It may be possible to change the timings of the day to start earlier/later and/or finish earlier/later – please get in touch before booking to discuss this.

Please note that the booking form below will be updated daily to reflect bookings already made - there is a capacity of 30 students per day (this is for H&S reasons due to the restricted space available in the Teaching Lab). You are welcome to book all 30 student places or, if you have less, please be aware that you may share the day with one or more other schools.
