Borrow our equipment sets to help deliver chemistry required practicals to your Post 16 students.

How to book and use the kits

North East schools can borrow the kits free of charge for up to two weeks. Schools can initially borrow each type of kit once a year.

  • our kit loan scheme is managed by Dr Peter Hoare, STEM Outreach Officer, please email him directly peter.hoare@ncl.ac.uk with details of what you would like to borrow and your preferred dates
  • you should be contacted within three working days to confirm your booking
  • once your booking is agreed you will receive collection details
  • you will be responsible for collecting the kit from a designated location on the Newcastle University campus
  • this should be on a week day between 09:00-16:00
  • if this is not possible, please get in touch before booking to see if we can make alternative arrangements
  • use your kit, please advise of any issues/details of broken or otherwise non-functioning equipment, by email
  • return your box to campus on or before the return date

You must be able to collect and return the kit from campus on your desired start and end date.


What kit is available?

Melting point apparatus

We have four boxes each containing two Stuart SMP10 digital melting point apparatus. Each kit box includes:

  • 2 x Stuart SMP10 mpt apparatus
  • 2 x 13A mains leads
  • 1 x tube of melting point tubes
  • 1 x laminated quick user guide
  • 1 x manufacturers instruction manual
Hand-held pH meters

There are up to 20 available. The Eutech ecotestr pH1 hand-held battery-operated pH meter has a measurement range from pH 0.0 to 14.0. Each kit box will include:

  • your specified number of pH meters
  • 1 x manufacturers operating instructions
