Professor Yuxiao Su

I serve as the Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute for the 2024–2026 term. I am a professor of English Literature in the Department of English, College of Foreign Languages and Cultures, Xiamen University, located in Xiamen, Fujian, China.
Professor Yuxiao Su holds a PhD in Western Literary Aesthetics and is a leading C. S. Lewis scholar in the Chinese-speaking world. Her works include The Self and the Other: C. S. Lewis’s Aesthetics of Otherness (2012) and On C. S. Lewis and Medievalism (2024). She has served as a Visiting Scholar at Oxford University and Baylor University.
Professor Su has published widely on C. S. Lewis, medieval and early modern literature, American literature, and the Chinese poet Qu Yuan, with articles appearing in Foreign Literature Review, Studies of Foreign Literature, Journal of Inklings Studies, Bunyan Studies, Religions, and Sino-Christian Studies, among others. She has also translated eight books from English into Chinese, totaling more than 1.6 million characters.
Before becoming the Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute at Newcastle University, she taught for 32 years at Xiamen University, where her most popular courses included Survey of English Literature, Classics of British Literature, Classical Mythology, and British History and Culture.
