Celebrating the founding of the People’s Republic of China
Newcastle colleagues were honoured to attend celebrations in Manchester marking 76 years since the founding of the People’s Republic of China (PRC).

On 28 September 2025, a celebration of 76 years of the PRC was held at the Manchester Deansgate Hotel.
The National Day Reception, organised by the Chinese Consulate in Manchester, featured several musical performances and the serving of traditional Chinese dishes.
Mr Tang Rui, the Consulate General of the PRC in Manchester, spoke to attendees about the importance of the celebrations and was followed by a number of other speakers.
Those in attendance, representing Newcastle University, included:
- Dr Andrew Law (School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape and Director of the Confucius Institute at Newcastle University)
- Professor Nigel Harkness (Deputy Vice-Chancellor)
- Professor Yuxiao Su (Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute)
- Dr Yin Liang (Newcastle University Business School)
Dr Law commented:
“It was a tremendous honour to be invited to such an event by Consul General Tang. Newcastle University is global-facing in all its endeavours and as such it is always a privilege to be invited to events which celebrate our contacts with cultures from around the world.”
