2023 Teaching and Research Seminar

On March 3, the Confucius Institute at Newcastle University held the first 2023 teaching and research seminar in Windsor Court, kicking off the series of monthly CI teaching and research seminars to improve staff’s teaching skills and pedagogies. Themed “Mandarin Teaching in Primary Schools”, the seminar was chaired by the CI Chinese Director Ruojuan Zheng and presented by Sheng Peng and Xiaolu Tan, two experienced CI teachers with rich teaching experiences in local schools. All CI Chinese staff attended the seminar. 

In addition to introducing rich and fascinating teaching activities, Sheng and Xiaolu also shared rich teaching resources which was highly praised by all teachers at present. Their presentation inspired lively discussion on challenges of Mandarin teaching in local schools in the UK and corresponding solutions, which are highly informative and instructive.

Director Ruojuan Zheng concluded that the aim of organising serial seminars is to provide platforms for teachers to exchange experiences so they can update their teaching methods and sharpen their teaching expertise and skills, a token that the CI at Newcastle University has been striving to provide the best Mandarin learning experiences to Newcastle University and the local community.
