Meet Kevin

PhD, Class of 2011

Introduce yourself and tell us a little bit about what you've done since graduating

I initially completed a post-doctorate at the University of Southampton. Then, I received a British Academy Postdoctoral Fellowship, which I completed at the University of York.

Later, I moved to the US, where I took up a position as Assistant Professor of Applied Linguistics. I received tenure and was promoted to Associate Professor. I am now Professor of Linguistics at the University of Pittsburgh.


Why did you choose to study at Newcastle University?

The reputation of the School and University stood out to me. I also wanted to work with my supervisor, Professor Florence Myles.


How do you think your course prepared you for your chosen career? 

It prepared me very well, giving me the skills to conduct research, publish work and understand academia. 


What did you enjoy most about your time at Newcastle University? 

Living in the city of Newcastle and working with an excellent team of staff. I thoroughly enjoyed graduate school.
