Japanese Studies

Our Japanese programmes offer much flexibility and can be studied as Single Honours or in a wide combination with other subjects.

Discover Japanese at Newcastle University

Language studies opens the door to mastering a new language while exploring the cultural, historical, political, and social contexts in which it is spoken.

Our programme focuses especially on contemporary Japanese culture. While we offer research-led modules on various elements of popular culture, animation and literature, our programme also gives students the opportunity to gain knowledge of Japanese history, society and politics through our foundational and external modules.

Find more information about our undergraduate degrees below.

We also offer courses for postgraduate students including Masters degrees and PhDs.
