Health Inequalities in the age of Covid 19

Tracy Shildrick and Ruth McAreavey, GPS

Towards fairer health for dis-advantaged communities (including those of Black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds)

The project will use the coronavirus pandemic as a prism through which to research health inequalities. It will produce evidence relating to people’s access to NHS information: about staying as well as possible and avoiding illness; and using primary care provision as it changes in response to a crisis. The project addresses persisting health inequalities. It builds on a firm foundation of existing knowledge, and responds to a locally and nationally identified issue. Emerging evidence suggests people in disadvantaged areas, including in minority ethnic communities, are more likely to have poor outcomes in the current pandemic.
