Abstract

The distinction between civilization and barbarism, does not only constitute an oppositional discourse for the justification of interventional processes and occupation of territories inhabited by indigenous people, but it also creates an ongoing conflict. As a consequence, what we have systematically observed since the second half of the 19th century is a historical and institutional process of civilizing project, which is based on producing images of the indigenous population as the intimate enemy. This is accomplished mainly through the cultural industry. Also, there are various death and dispossession policies being applied, that are being justified under the moral, criminal and neoliberal discourses.
