This lecture on epigenetics will demystify the science behind genes and identity, and demonstrate how lifestyle and environment can influence gene expression. It will explore the dynamic relationship between our choices and our genetic script, and how this understanding empowers us to shape health and destiny beyond our DNA.

Biography

Professor Jelena Mann is a distinguished researcher in the field of epigenetics, currently holding a Chair of Epigenetics at Newcastle university. She was awarded First class degree in Biochemistry in 1997and completed her Ph.D. in Medicine in 2001. She joined Newcastle University in 2006 where her pioneering work has significantly advanced our understanding on how environmental factors can influence gene expression, leading to breakthroughs in predicting disease and therapeutic outcomes. Her extensive publication record includes numerous articles in top-tier scientific journals. As an educator, she is known for her engaging teaching style, inspiring a new generation of scientists.
