Women in Property 2022 National Student Awards

Following her success in the Women in Property Yorkshire & North East award, Geography and Planning student, Anna Maw recently attended the Final of the Women in Property 2022 National Student Awards.

The Awards programme runs regionally each year and provides the opportunity for universities to nominate their top female students in their second year on a built environment degree course. The regional nominees are interviewed by a regional judging panel, where candidates are questioned about a piece of coursework, as well as being assessed on their personal skills, professional potential and understanding of the industry.

Following a rigorous assessment at regional level, the winners are invited to the Final where once again, they face a judging panel and are challenged on topical industry issues.

Speaking on this fantastic achievement, Anna said:

“As a young, northern girl enthusiastic about local planning, and to be selected as one of the 14 finalists out of 113 in the country for the Women in Property Award, was a surprise and a privilege.

I loved being able to really express my passion for tackling inequalities in planning and serving my local community, as well as meeting so many inspiring women from all walks of life.

Though it was a daunting experience, getting a taste of the corporate world and its lack of diversity has made me really value the importance of real inclusivity and sustainability - not just in the structure of the workforce, but in the places it operates in and the people it involves.

The best part of the experience itself was to have been nominated by Abby - to have my efforts at University recognised by even being nominated in the first place meant a lot, and made me push myself to get work experience and learn about community projects and industries around me.”
