Are We There Yet? A Critical Analysis of Autonomous Vehicle Future Imaginaries
Algorithmically mediated technologies are increasingly posed as technical ‘fixes’ to a wealth of socio-political problems, and are subsequently permeating the fabric and inner workings of daily life. Accordingly, Jennie’s research critically explores the politics of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and sociodigital futures through the prism of autonomous vehicle (AV) emergence. Drawing on interviews with AV professionals, analysis of policy and regulation, and observations at industry events, she considers what the discourses about AV future imaginaries can reveal about ethics, algorithmic power and injustice, democratic processes, and future governance.
