Staff Profile

Dr Arijit De

Lecturer in Operations Management

Dr Arijit De is currently working as a Lecturer in Operations Management at Newcastle University Business School, Newcastle University.

Prior to this, he was associated as a visiting researcher with the School of Business and Economics, Loughborough University. Arijit also worked as a Research Scholar with the Department of Industrial & Systems Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur. Arijit was also associated as a Research Assistant with the Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering, The University of Hong Kong.

Educational Qualifications:

Arijit De received his Ph.D. in Industrial & Systems Engineering and M.Tech in Industrial Engineering and Management.

He has authored in a number of technical papers (more than 10) in International Journals (peer-reviewed) such as European Journal of Operational Research, International Journal of Production Economics, IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Transportation SystemsInternational Journal of Production Research, IEEE Transactions on Engineering ManagementAnnals of Operation ResearchComputers and Industrial Engineering and Engineering Applications of Artificial Intelligence. Arijit is also serving as a reviewer for twelve renowned International Journals.

Professional Experience:

Arijit worked on a European Union EuropeAid - funded project  EU-India Research & Innovation Partnership for Efficient and Sustainable Freight Transportation (REINVEST). Some of the research works obtained out of this project are published on reputed journals such as European Journal of Operational Research, Annals of Operation Research and IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management.

While at Loughborough University, Arijit developed a conceptual framework based on Intuitionistic fuzzy set theory to evaluate organization's sustainable performance. He also developed a decision support framework considering ontology-based text mining and self organising maps for analysing the customer warranty data related to product failure information (the work is published on Computers and Industrial Engineering).

While working in the University of Hong Kong, the research work of Arijit was funded by National Natural Science Foundation of China, Research Grants Council of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, China and The University of Hong Kong through the Seed Fund for Basic Research. Arijit performed extensive computational experiment to carry out researches in the area of sustainable shipping operations considering routing and scheduling operation, fuel bunker management and loading and unloading operations (the work is published on IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Transportation Systems). Moreover, he also adopted various recovery policies for countering the disruptions within maritime supply chain management (the work is published on IEEE Transactions on Engineering management).
