Publications
We are thrilled to celebrate the success of Professor Andrea Whittle, Professor of Management and Organisation Studies, and co-authors for their latest publication in the British Journal of Management (BJM), British Academy of Management. The paper is titled 'Narrative Switching in Entrepreneurial Failure Accounts: Unravelling Discourse Dynamics and Variability.' This inductive study investigates the phenomenon of narrative switching in accounts of failure within entrepreneurial contexts, which occurs when a narrator suddenly switches to an alternative story of the events within the same interaction.
Congratulations to Dr Jose Liu, Senior Lecturer in Accounting and Finance, and his co-authors Dr Yaofei Xu, Dr Yi Hong, and Dr Zhendong Zhang whose article 'Greeks-Neutral Option Excess Returns' has been accepted for publication in The Journal of Futures Markets.
Professor Natalia Yannopoulou, Professor in Marketing, and her co-editor Athanasia Daskalopoulou have been successful on the publication of their edited book 'Marketing Ethics and Consumer Society: Practising Inclusive, Responsible and Sustainable Marketing'.
Well done to Professor Benjamin Bader, Professor in International Human Resource Management, who has joined the author team of the established book 'Strategic International Management', now in its fully updated 4th edition, published with Springer.
This edition has been completely overhauled and updated to reflect the realities and challenges of today’s international business environment, covering everything from global strategy and entry modes to cross-cultural management and, of course, international HRM.
Professor Bader said: “I had the immense privilege of co-authoring this with three outstanding scholars and people: Dirk Morschett, Hanna Schramm-Klein, and Joachim Zentes, who asked me to join their team for this new edition. Their trust in bringing me on board and their generosity in shaping this process made it not just a professional project, but a personal journey I will always treasure.”
Conferences
Dr Jose Liu and Dr Doris Xin hosted the 2025 Tri-Uni Conference with colleagues and PhD students from Newcastle University Business School, Cardiff Business School, Xiamen University Management School for a successful and collaborative event in early May.

Postgraduate Research
Jinghui Li presented at the IFABS hosted at Saïd Business School, University of Oxford in April. This was for her paper titled, 'CEO Cultural Heritages and Corporate Cash Holding: An Analysis of U.S. Tourism Sector'. This was co-authored with Professor Marwa Elnahass, Dr Vu Trinh and Kiet Duong. This was a great opportunity to connect with the academic community and be part of such a well-organised event.
