Fiona Yip is a Strategic Partnerships Manager at Newcastle University. The role seeks to strengthen and grow relationships between the University and key industry partners.
Fiona works with academic colleagues to catalyse the translation of fundamental research into real world applications. This can be at an individual project level but often entails forming multi-disciplinary teams across the University to work on complex and multi-faceted projects with external stakeholders.
Fiona is currently strengthening the University’s relationship with Proctor & Gamble both within the UK and internationally and has grown links with P&G across all three Faculties within the University with a large portfolio of programmes and projects.

In addition to P&G, Fiona also manages the University’s relationship with Northumbrian Water Group (NWG) and Northern Gas Networks (NGN).
Prior to joining Newcastle University, Fiona worked in industry and the public sector. She started her career in the consumer electronics sector with Samsung Electronics and then in the automotive sector with Nissan.
Along with her industry experience, Fiona also gained experience while working at the Regional Development Agency, One North East where she served as a member of the Strategy Directorate responsible for economic strategy and industrial policy. This involved engaging with policy makers at government level and implementing policies on a regional scale with external stakeholders and inward investment to grow the local economy.
Fiona actively manages a strong network of contacts both in the UK and internationally by visiting companies and overseas governments to foster collaboration and create multidisciplinary problem solving teams.
Fiona joined Newcastle University in 2015 as a Business Development Manager for SAgE, predominantly as the University lead for Nissan and Northumbrian Water as well as a number of other major companies.
