The next generation of artists will be exhibiting their work at Newcastle University’s Fine Art Degree Show.
One of the highlights of the University calendar, the annual event is the culmination of four years’ hard work by the undergraduates.
The exhibtion will be held in the University’s Hatton Gallery, Fine Art Building and Boiler House and will feature paintings, drawing, sculpture and performance art.
Bella Benson’s work focuses on reframing details from the urban environment through sculpture and print. She said: “The Degree Show showcases a diverse range of creative practices and offers a unique opportunity to see the work of emerging artists.”
Fellow artist Honor Greig will be displaying eight paintings of Adidas footballs and studs, exploring themes of obsession and sexuality. She said: “'It is exciting to come to the end of our journey at Newcastle University and to see the culmination of each artist's journey.”
Degree Show supervisor, Fine Art Senior Lecturer Giles Bailey, said: “This year’s graduating cohort have achieved extraordinary things. It is so impressive to see them resolve their independently led and innovative work. Sharing a short section of their creative journey has been a pleasure and a privilege. I am grateful for their companionable energy firstly, but I am also indebted to them for their invitation to see the world in new ways.”
The Fine Art Degree Show will run from Friday 23rd May (preview 6pm-9pm) to Saturday 7 June. It will transfer to Glasgow’s Strange Field between Friday 25th July (preview 6pm-9pm) and Tuesday 29th July.
