We are our Memories

New exhibition by Fine Art graduate Trish Hudson-Moses, 22 April – 4 May 2026
A milestone
We Are Our Memories is a new solo exhibition by Trish Hudson‑Moses, a 2025 Master of Fine Art graduate of Newcastle University and winner of the Cass Art MFA Graduate Exhibition Award.
The show marks an important milestone in her artistic development following her acclaimed degree presentation.
Hudson‑Moses’ practice has long explored the nature of memory—how it forms, erodes and renews over time. Her work examines both familial and genetic memory, particularly its transmission through matriarchal lineage. This interest led her to the striking science of Foetal Microchimerism, the process by which foetal cells cross the blood–brain barrier and continue living within the maternal body. This revelation prompted her to ask: Does she still carry the physical substance of her children within her?
Through techniques such as tearing cloth, binding, weaving, wrapping, and staining with rust, Hudson‑Moses has developed a symbolic material language. Circles, open structures and densely woven forms evoke the stories, myths and DNA-coded traits passed down through generations of women. These sculptural works form the heart of We Are Our Memories.
Reflecting on this next stage in her career, Trish, who graduated from Newcastle University’s Master of Fine Art course last summer, said: “It’s a very exciting opportunity for an exhibiting artist, as completing the Masters after two intense years can lead to deflation and a feeling of ‘what’s next?’ We are out on our own at last. For me, the chance to work towards this exhibition led me straight into my next phase of working, and all is set up at my home studio to continue with this.”
Nick Fox , Co-Head of Fine Art helped to develop the award with Cass Art. He said:
“The partnership with Cass Art provides exhibition opportunities for graduating MFA Fine Art Students from Newcastle University in the year after graduation. This provides an important and focussed opportunity for our MFA graduates to develop new work for a solo exhibition and engage with new audiences in the year after graduation.”
He added: "The awarding panel were so impressed by Trish’s exceptional exhibition and rich creative practice, and we are incredibly excited to see how the work has developed since last summer."
