Published on: 18 June 2026

Newcastle has been ranked as a global top 150 university by an influential higher education guide.

Published today (18 June), The QS World University Rankings 2027 ranks Newcastle University 149th in the world, out of over 1,500 international institutions from over 100 countries. This means Newcastle University has been ranked in the global top 150 for the sixth year in a row.

QS analysed institutions across nine indicators, such as Academic Reputation, Citations per Faculty, Sustainability and International Research Network.

The Sustainability Indicator, which is taken from the QS Sustainability ranking evaluating social and environmental impact of universities, places Newcastle 64th in the world, while the International Research Network sees the University climb to 60th globally, representing a rise of five places year-on-year.

Professor Chris Day, Vice-Chancellor and President, Newcastle University, said: “Our consistently strong position in the QS World University Rankings signals the quality and impact of our research, teaching and overall academic environment. These positive results reflect the hard work by colleagues across all three faculties and our commitment to delivering the best possible learning experience for our students.”
