Introduction
Dr Sandra Salin is a French native speaker with post graduate qualifications (including PGD and PhD) in English, French Studies and French as a Foreign Language. She holds a Certificate in Advanced Studies in Academic Practice and is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. She is also a proposal and manuscript reviewer for the academic journal Labor History, Routledge Language Learning, Cahiers de l'AFLS and Comparative and International Education.
Dr Salin has worked as a French Lecturer in several universities in the UK, including Sheffield and Northumbria University. She joined Newcastle University School of Modern Languages in 2000, became a full-time Teaching Fellow in 2010, a Lecturer in 2015 and a Senior Lecturer in 2018. She currently teaches French on various undergraduate modules, from first to final year. She is also the module leader of two French language modules and one cross-section final-year module.
Her current interests include: Language learning and teaching; Language material and programme development; transition to HE; independent and reflective learning; students' engagement; mental health; intercultural competence and global citizenship.

CURRENT PROJECTS:
1) Publication of the Year Abroad Conference 2018 (YAC2018) proceedings
In 2018, I initiated and led the organisation of the first YAC Conference that was held in Newcastle on 15th September 2018. 65 delegates from 15 UK HE institutions attended. 10 articles based on papers presented at this conference will be published in a peer-reviewed volume in the Autumn 2019. This involves leading and collaborating with 10 contributors, 5 reviewers from Warwick, Leeds and Newcastle; as well as working with the publisher Research-Publishing.net.
2) Transition to Languages at Newcastle
This year, as part of my sabbatical leave, I will be working on transition to HE, focusing on teaching and learning at A-Level and redesigning our Stage 1 French Language module to better integrate study and graduate skills into the curriculum.
