Academic support: what’s changing next year

From the next academic year, the University is updating how academic support is organised to provide clearer, more consistent guidance throughout your studies.

2 June 2026

What to expect

The role of personal tutors will be renamed Academic Advisers, with a stronger focus on proactive support - helping you access the right guidance at the right time.

From September 2026 Academic Advising will be enabled through a digital system, with training and guidance available for the start of the new academic year.

What this means for you

  • Both you and your Academic Adviser will have access to a new digital system that will provide you with the tools to support your progress
  • Clearer guidance on how to access a range of University Support Services

Important to note

As we transition to this new form of academic support, approaches may vary by School to reflect different teaching models and needs. This means your experience may differ slightly depending on your programme.

What you should do

Keep an eye on communications from your School at the start of term and attend any briefings to understand how academic support will work for you.

The aim remains the same: to ensure you feel well supported throughout your time at University—even if the way this is delivered looks a little different.
