Specific Learning Difficulties

The Specialist Learning team supports students with specific learning difficulties, AD(H)D and Autism Spectrum Disorder.

How can they help?

If you have, or suspect you have, a specific learning difficulty then you can contact the Specialist Learning team.

The team supports students with specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia, dyscalculia, dyspraxia and students with AD(H)D or Autism Spectrum Disorders.

If you think you have a Specific Learning Difficulty you can arrange an initial appointment.

A Specialist Learning Adviser can discuss the areas of difficulty you are experiencing and provide advice about an assessment with a chartered psychologist.

If you have a diagnosis, the team can offer:

Skills signposting

An initial appointment to look at your needs and the support available.

One-to-one support

One-to-one study skills support from a specialist tutor, based on your individual needs and the demands of your course.

The tutor can help you work on areas such as:

  • essay writing technique
  • reading strategies
  • organisational skills and time management
  • revision planning and techniques

Advice on exam adjustments

Students with a diagnosis of a SpLD may be eligible for exam adjustments.

Advice on applying for Disabled Students Allowance (DSA)

The team can advise you on applying for Disabled Students Allowance (DSA), a non-means tested grant available to UK students which covers some additional study-related costs.
