Business School students bag the chance to compete on a global scale

The CFA Institute runs an annual global investment challenge that provides university students worldwide with hands-on mentoring and thorough training in financial analysis. With participation from over 4000 students from 865 universities across the globe, this is a huge competition which is industry recognised worldwide.

Postgraduate students; Steven Lawrence, Bingjie Huang, Thomas Cullen, Luca Gissi and Undergraduate student Dominic Oulton, will first submit an equity research report. The reports are then graded and the top four local teams are invited to do a presentation before a panel of judges held in London next year. The winners of the local competitions then advance to the Global Final in April 2017 in Prague.

Throughout the competition, the group must demonstrate an understanding of the subject company's business model and strategy, the competitive environment, and financial performance.
They will be mentored by industry experts throughout the project. One of which is Business School alumnus, Scott Farnetti, Vice President and Investment Manager at Barclays Wealth and Investment Management.

Dr Thanos Verousis, senior lecturer in Finance and the group’s academic mentor throughout the project comments; “This is an excellent opportunity for our students to receive mentoring and intensive trading in financial analysis by industry professionals. Students from 70 countries are invited to take part in this year’s competition and we are looking forward to being involved in the challenge.”

We wish the team all the luck and support.
