EY present awards for student projects

David Smith, Associate Partner of EY came to the Business School in November to present awards to BA (Hons) Accounting and Finance students for their performance in the Stage 2 module, Understanding Company Accounts in 2016 / 17. Students in the top three groups were presented with certificates and Intu Eldon Square Vouchers, sponsored by EY, during a lecture to the current stage 2 students, this was followed by a comprehensive and invaluable talk from David regarding understanding companies and analysing their financial statements.

At the start of the module the students were put into teams and tasked with analysing a listed company. They had to produce a 6,000 word group report and give a 20 minute group presentation.

The winning team were: Sultan Binsultan; Victoria Gilbert; Tsz Wang Ip; Xingyi Liu; Kamala Madatova; and Joshua Morton for their report and presentation on British American Tobacco.

All three of the top groups demonstrated a good understanding of how their company operates and showed an insightful and detailed analysis of the financial statements.

Gill Holden, Module Leader said: “This group project is a fantastic opportunity to experience accounting and finance in a real-world environment. We are thrilled that EY not only sponsor the prizes, but also attend progress meetings with the students and the presentations. It’s gives students the chance to put questions to professional staff in the field of work they’re interested in.”
