Brief Outline of Research Project:

This project investigates British poets’ poetic innovation within the various contexts of Thatcherism. Drawing particular attention to poets associated with Linguistically Innovative Poetry, it contextualizes British innovative poetry within the sweeping changes under Thatcher’s Britain, understanding the period’s poetic formal innovation as a textual response to radical socio-economic and cultural upheaval. Exploring the correlation between literary and material cultures, the project combines textual analysis with a focused study of the period’s small-press publication networks, demonstrating the place of late-modernist creative practices within rapidly transforming socio-economic contexts.
