Personal Information
Dr Elise Pegg is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Engineering within the Bioengineering group. After completing her doctorate at the University of Nottingham, Dr Pegg worked in the orthopaedic industry for three years as a research engineer, after which she decided to return to academia and moved to the University of Oxford to become a post-doctoral researcher within the Nuffield Department of Orthopaedics, Rheumatology and Musculoskeletal Sciences where she gained valuable insight into clinical practice. Dr Pegg spent ten years at the University of Bath within the Department of Mechanical Engineering, and has recently moved to Newcastle University.
Qualifications
- Ph.D, University of Nottingham, 2007, entitled "Organic functionalisation of titania"
- B.Sc. (Hons) University of Nottingham, 2004, Medical Materials Science.
Memberships
In addition to her role at Newcastle University, Dr Pegg is the Membership Secretary for the UK Society of Biomaterials, a Professional Member of the Institute of Materials, Minerals & Mining (IOM3), Fellow of Advance HE (FHEA), and External Examiner for Medical Engineering programmes at the University of Leeds.
Research Information
Dr Pegg's research uses orthopaedic mechanics and biomaterials technologies to address healthcare challenges with a focus on the lower limb. Work includes the development of new biomaterials and structures for medical device design, computational tools to assist diagnosis, and numerical simulation to predict the success of surgical treatments.
Dr Pegg currently supervises 3 doctoral students and has a strong track record of successful supervision. If you are interested in undertaking a PhD with Dr Pegg in the fields of biomechanics or biomaterials, please email elise.pegg@newcastle.ac.uk to find out more.
