Background
Introduction
I am a mechanical technician working for the School of Marine Science and Technology. I completed an advanced level apprenticeship in engineering through Rolls Royce North East Training Centre and have worked at the University since 2010.
Roles and Responsibilities
My main role within the University is to support students, academic and research staff and commercial contractors carrying out projects in the Armstrong building hydrodynamics laboratory and the Emerson cavitation tunnel facility at Blyth. This includes manufacturing scale models of vessels, tidal turbines etc. to be tested in the school facilities and designing and manufacturing equipment and test rigs needed to run the experiments. I also operate the school facilities, such as the wind wave current tank and the towing tank.I am involved in the training of apprentice technicians, ensuring that they are competent in workshop procedures and use of equipment.
