Dr Zhang joined the School of Engineering as Lecturer in Structural Engineering in September 2022. Prior to this, he was a research fellow funded by Marie Skłodowska-Curie Individual Fellowship at the University of Exeter. He received his Ph.D. degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Waterloo in Canada followed by a postdoctoral training in timber engineering at the University of Alberta. His current research interests include timber structures, floor vibration serviceability, bio-based materials and human movement.
Research Interests
Timber / steel structures: Connections, composite actions, lateral load resisting systems
Vibration serviceability: Lightweight timber / steel floor systems, footbridge
Bio-based materials: plant-based materials
Human movement: Gait analysis under abnormal environment (e.g., vibration)
Solid mechanics: Analytical modelling of structural elements with complicated boundary conditions, attachments and discontinuities.
Past fundings
“Developing advanced vibration performance assessment for new generation of lightweight pedestrian structures using motion platform and virtual reality environments”, Marie Skłodowska-Curie Individual Fellowship, ID: 898216, € 224 933.76, October 2020 to October 2022. Co-PI: Stana Zivanovic, University of Exeter, UK
“Structural analysis of innovative mass timber penal-steel composite floors and its application”, Mitacs Globalink, IT16921, $6,000, June 2020 to August 2020 (Cancelled due to COVID-19 pandemic). Co-PI: Takuro Mori, Hiroshima University, Japan
