Staff Profile

I am an ESRC-funded PhD candidate in Latin American studies. My research explores Quechua language teaching and learning online. I graduated with a first class BA (Hons) in Modern Languages: French, German and Spanish from Newcastle University in 2014. I also hold an MA in Latin American Studies and a PG Cert in Research Methods from Newcastle University.

My PhD thesis investigates Quechua language teaching and learning online.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, increasing numbers of people have been learning Quechua online, in ways that were not frequently used or possible pre-pandemic. This study investigates this new online Quechua learning environment, considering who is engaging with selected virtual Quechua classes broadcast from Peru and Ecuador, and why. The findings highlight a diverse range of participants in the online Quechua classes, with varying motivations for learning the language, and approaches to teaching Quechua online.
